South Africa, along with several other Southern African countries, has among the highest HIV infection rates in the world. Indeed, the AIDS crisis in Southern Africa today has been compared to the plague in Europe in the Middle Ages. This problem examines some of the implications of the AIDS epidemic in South Africa and the possible approaches to alleviating it. The problem also addresses issues concerning bilateral relations between developed and developing countries and the role of multinational corporations and multilateral institutions in world politics.
